Netherlands: Gender Sexuality Alliances

Story of change #65

Students and teachers come together in GSAs to organise activities in their schools regarding sexual orientation and gender identity. Purple Friday (when people wear purple to protest against homophobia and show solidarity with LGBTI people) reaches 90% of all Dutch secondary schools. It is a good example of a successful, community-driven and bottom-up approach.

This Story of change #65 is told by Flemming and Whitney, teacher and student Hofstad Lyceum Den Haag and Geert-Jan Edelenbosch, Project leader Youth and Education, COC Netherlands.
