Safety Training for LGBTIQ People in Malawi

Human rights activists in particular LGBTI activists are not safe in Malawi. Although the LGBTI movement has grown significantly in Malawi, it does not mean that activists are protected or know how to protect each other from all forms of violence including cyber violence.

For this reason, Ivy Foundation, an LBQI organisation based in Lilongwe, Malawi after carrying out a needs assessment, decided to train the community on safety and security strategies such as how to be safe online, avoid and report cases violence.

In collaboration with a consultant and the Malawi Police, the community was trained and the risks were reportedly reduced.
